When Worse Becomes Worst
Some people usually think of sexually transmitted diseases as punishments meted out by fate to irresponsible individuals ruled by lust, debauchery, hedonism or adultery. While they only have utter sympathy to those affected by life threatening diseases like AIDS, they have nothing but disdain and scorn for those experiencing genital herpes. Little do they know that there are cases when genital herpes can ruin one’s life.
Because of the visible and severely painful marks of genital herpes, the life of the affected individual will undergo harsh changes. Your social life will be greatly limited as only a few people in this world have an open mind when it comes to sexually transmitted diseases. They distrust the known fact that condoms and foams serve as a proven safety precaution for HSV – the virus responsible for genital herpes – to be transmitted. When your disease becomes public, it may also lead to being treated like a leper and socially ostracized, especially when you live in small towns where everybody knows everybody’s business.
It is psychologically difficult also for the individual to adjust to the
reality of genital herpes. It is hard for them to accept that no amount
of money or prayers can remove from their body the virus responsible
for genital
herpes. While they have the option of taking medication that suppresses
symptoms of genital herpes and provides relief from the pain, none of
these can ever
be used as a cure. There is no known cure for genital herpes.
Although half of those experiencing genital herpes caused by HSV 2 are
asymptomatically infected, the other half is not so lucky. Symptoms
can range from mildly
irritating to downright painful. The lesions or blisters that appear
in affected areas are very sensitive and must not be aggravated by
any external
factor,
if possible. Another unwelcoming symptom is painful urination for the
individual.
Worse becomes definitely worst when your body starts rejecting common medication for genital herpes like acyclovir (Zovirax) and other analogous drugs. If you are undergoing daily suppressive therapy already, coupled with regular medication and symptoms become intolerable – affecting eyes, lungs or the brain – you may be forced to take intravenous medication.
Foscarnet
(Foscavir) is known to be a powerful intravenous agent but it may
be accompanied with undesirable side effects like impairment of one’s kidney functions
as well as inducing the individual into having seizures.
