The Difference of HSV-1 and HSV-2
There are two types of virus that causes herpes, The HSV-1 and the HSV-2. When looked under a microscope both are virtually identical and only have a 50% difference in their DNA. Aside from being virtually identical, they have other similarities as well. Both of them infect the mucosal surfaces of the body and those that they have infected have no noticeable symptoms.
Mostly the difference of the two is the areas they infect. HSV-1 usually starts to develop in the collection of nerve cells in the ears and its outbreaks usually occur in the mouth and facial region. While the HSV-2 usually develops in the nerves at the lower base of the spine and its outbreaks is generally in the genital area.
Some say that the HSV-1 virus can occur spontaneously in the ocular part of the body. In reality this is impossible as herpes only start from one region and then spread further out. HSV-1 virus in the lips, eyes and mouth are very mild really. But that doesn’t mean they should be taken for granted. As in some rare cases where the herpes has spread in the eye, can cause blindness. In some rare cases, herpes can be able to affect the brain as well and can result in death.
Some also say that HSV-1 is the less risky virus. But current research has been proving them wrong. This is mostly because of the belief of some people towards HSV-1. Because many people are not aware that HSV-1 can also be contacted both orally and genitally.
HSV-1 also is starting to be more of a concern because those infected with HSV-1 show little concern of transmission as to those infected with HSV-2. The reality is that both types are easily transmitted. They are also more contagious when outbreaks are present or even when no outbreak is present too.
Because HSV-1 is present in the mucus of the saliva, a simple social kiss may initiate the transfer as well. But most people who have been infected with HSV-1 virus have been able to get this virus because of the transfer of virus when they were born. While most people who have been infected with HSV-2 virus is when they have begin to be active in sex. The benefit of having either one of these two is that when one gets infected with the other type, he has been able to develop certain anti-bodies.
Since both also have different site preferences, both can behave differently depending on the site where outbreaks occur. Yet it would be better if the outbreak would be further away from the site of preferences they usually occur as they will produce less harm.
Therefore to be bale to prevent being harmed by this disease or infect others
as well, practice safe sex. If you have been already infected, tell the person
or your partner about your situation. It would be best to prevent he disease
form spreading to others and controlling your own as well.
