Herpes Gladiatorum
This variation of herpes is mostly seen in sports like wrestling where the participants has close skin to skin contact, which is how herpes gladiatorum spreads.
Usually the neck, arms, hand and shoulders are the infected parts, but the infection can hit other areas as well. The infection manifests itself as blisters or sores in clusters which may be painful, in other cases the sores and blisters are not painful at all.
Diagnosing herpes gladiatorum is done by your dermatologist or your private physician. They might need to do a culture test to verify that the symptoms are indeed herpes gladiatorum.
Herpes gladiatorum treatment is usually regular Zovirax either in pill form or as ointment.
It is faily simple to prevent herpes gladiatorum, wrestlers who are infected are of course not alowed to partake in fights until the infections are cleared up. Also make sure you get a checkup if the skin starts to itch or show other symptoms that could evolve into herpes gladiatorum.
herpes gladiatorum can of course attack other people than wrestlers, but it is most prevalent in close contact sports.
