Could it be possible? Could one still have a life after genital herpes?
It's almost impossible even when you were just having doubts. Remember those sleepless nights, wondering when, where and with whom you could have acquired it? What about all those times you tried to go to a doctor for a diagnosis but in the end, chickened out because you didn’t think you were ready if you were really infected with genital herpes? And only when your paranoia was keeping you at wits’ end that you finally made yourself undergo a test to ascertain if you were truly infected or not.
Then it was the day of reckoning: the results are positive. You are infected with genital herpes.
What to do now?
Don’t panic. Don’t entertain suicidal thoughts. Don’t broadcast the reality of your situation to just anyone else till you’ve thought things through carefully and completely. A lot of people with genital herpes initially have a hard time dealing with their lots in lives and consequently commit mistakes that they would regret later on. Blisters caused by genital herpes are fickle things and they may not react well to ordinary topical creams or lotions.
Secondly, you can try out some relief methods that people with genital herpes find generally helpful in assuaging their painful conditions when the symptoms erupt. Wearing cotton underwear or fabrics that would not end up irritating the lesions further usually helps and enable you to continue with your daily routine without much trouble.
And while abstaining from sex is commonly advised when you are experiencing symptoms of genital herpes, these would go away in one or two weeks so you can then resume your ordinary lifestyle afterwards.
Genital herpes won’t be able to ruin your life if you don’t
allow it to. If you have other problems relating to your condition, there
are support groups that you could join and you’d meet people who can
easily empathize because they, too, have genital herpes and certainly know
and understand what you’re going through.
